Just How Big Was Noah's Ark?

In thinking about Noah and the Ark, we know that God told Noah to build the ark 50 cubits wide, 300 cubits long, and 30 cubits high. But how long was a cubit? The popular measurement is 18 inches, probably because a foot and a half makes a convenient stardard for conversion to feet. But in various ancient cultures, a cubit was the distance between a person's elbow and the tip of the middle finger.

20 inches is closer to the average man's measurement between these two points. This measurement on me is right at 19," but I am a smaller man than the average. By the 20 inches standard, Noah's ark would have been right at 83.33 feet wide, 500 feet long, and 50 feet high.

Many scholars believe that the temple cubit was 1.84 feet. By this standard, the ark would have been even bigger. But by the most conservative measurements the ark would have been bigger than the popular 18 inches to a cubit would make it at only 75' x 450' x 45'.

Let's Rally to Promote Faith in God

Atheist movements are springing up all over the United States. The American Religious Identification survey shows that the amount of people claiming "no religion" has doubled in the past 18 years to form 15 percent of US population. In some states like South Carolina, the number of non-believers has multiplied to over three hundred percent. Another recent study by Trinity College in Connecticut also show atheism on the rise in our country.

Christians must rally to advance God's kingdom in non-political ways. It is certainly our duty to participate in the political process, but politics is limited in what it can achieve. We need a spiritual renewal of genuine Christian faith. Let's rally to build Noah's ark to as a testimony to our faith in God and His word. And in the process pray for a mighty deluge of Holy Spirit conviction on our nation.

Launching Noah's Ark Guild in Pueblo County

Let's Honor God and Put Pueblo County, Colorado on the Map

Does your heart cry out for God? Do you long for a future where righteousness and justice rules and peace prevails? Would you like to know that your children and grandchildren will live in a secure and wholesome environment? If your answer to these questions is a strong “yes” than you long for what a nation-wide revival of faith in God would bring. Psalm 89:14 says that righteousness and justice are the foundation of God's throne and Luke 2 shows the angels proclaiming peace on earth to the shepherds of Bethlehem.

Real faith begins with an expression of hope. It prays with confidence as in the Lord's prayer, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Real Christianity thrives on an attitude of triumph. It walks on water and cannot be intimidated by waves of doubt. God-given faith mobilizes our bodies and energizes our spirits. It lives on a high moral plane and urns to bring others to the holiness of God. It dares to believe that corrupt, immoral society can be transformed by the power of God. Real faith takes action! It takes responsibility to change the world.

Vibrant Christianity will change society as eighteenth century Christianity did. That Christianity drastically changed the moral landscape of England and wove true faith into the very fabric of our nation. We call for a revival of this kind of faith to restore hope and drive back the rising tide of atheism in our nation.

We propose that you help us call people back to faith in God by helping us graphically demonstrate that the word of God is true. Atheists and skeptics mock the idea that Noah could have gotten all the animals in an ark, much less float the whole cargo on a flooded, turbulent ocean. But careful observation of the facts shows that the account of Noah and the ark in the Bible is credible.

Today we launch Noah's Ark Guild for the purpose of building an ark as long and as wide as the biblical ark with hundreds of sculptured animals. With this ark we will demonstrate that there was room for all the animals on this ark and that it was as well designed as modern ships for plying the open seas. This certainly will be a humongous task, but we can do it by pooling our efforts. We call for individuals, churches, businesses and other organizations to join with us in this endeavor.

This will be a family oriented attraction with many cute small sculptured animals for the children to sit on and interact with. Not only will this project call people back to faith in God. It will stimulate the economy of the area and bring God's favor upon us. It will certainly put Pueblo West on the map in the minds of people world-wide.

Please send your email to larrygrabill@gmail.com to find out how you can participate in this project. This endeavor could have a side benefit of advertising your church or business.

Noah's Ark Guild was founded by Larry Grabill, pastor, builder, and sculptor. We are looking for people in the area to serve as board members.

Revival

Ezekiel shows that God favors those who care about their nation going in the wrong direction: “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it” (Ezekiel 4:9). If we cry out to God in united faith, our prayers will not go unheeded. Let's take responsibility to change our society!

Building Noah's ark will not bring revival, but this project would go a long way toward calling peoples attention to the importance of following God. The ark can be a rallying point to emphasize serious intercession and making long-range plans to advance God's kingdom. Let's be reminded that our Lord directs us to pray your "kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as in heaven." This prayer is for here and now, not for a future millennial reign!

What is is the Noah's Ark Guild About?

Noah's Ark Guild is about promoting a cause to build a full-scale Noah's for the purpose inspiring a revival of faith in God on three fronts.

1. Family: Noah saved his family from the consequences of his societies wickedness. We need a revival of biblical family values.

2. Creation: The flood of Noah's time is the answer to most of the fossil evidence that the evolutions propose. The flood produced the fossils, not billions of years of decay. We need a revival of faith in God as our Creator, Sustainer, and Revealer of truth.

3. Holiness: God saved Noah and his family because they were righteous. We need a revival of the Bible's message of purifying love that sets us aflame for God and delivers us from willful sin.

Size of Noah's Ark was not Exceeded Until 1884

Noah's Ark was three stories high. The square footage of the deck was equal to about 20 college basketball courts or 36 tennis courts. The first ship in history after Noah's time that exceeded its size was the Italian liner Eturia, built in AD 1884.

Noah's Ark as Big as a 5 1/2 mile Train

The cubic space of Noah's Ark was 1,518,000 cubic feet. This is the capacity of 569 railroad stock cars. The standard stock car is 44 feet long with a space 2670 cubic feet. This would make a train be about 5 ½ miles long.
